Pictures Of Goliath

These photographs taken in 1995-1996 show Goliath in her place standing proudly above the town.
It was hard to take a photograph of the coast line or from the hills without the crane getting into the shot.

The last photograph shows the empty yard where she had once stood.
This area is currently at the planning stages for re-development.

People turned out in numbers on all the hills and vantage points on the day she was due to be knocked down. The first attempt failed and everyone was back out again the following time to see it finally fall.

The six photographs below were submitted by Mr K Green.

This picture was taken from Firth View on Bouverie Street around 1950, showing quite a few of the old crane structures.  Port Glasgow railway station was down the hill to the left.   The view  is towards Gourock.  The old red stone tenament building with fabulous views where my Uncle and Aunt lived is long demolished.
