DEAD AND GONE
By Des Hughes

Remember the days of shipyard craze
there was no time to wander, doze or daze,
I remember a friday when dad brought home his pay
werent they just the good old days

There were loads of people all around
people seemed happy - very few frowned
you could smell the money in the air
especially at the great PORT fair

The women could get the shopping done
dad always had a job lined up for his son
Platers, welders, and burners too
now all they do is march to the broo

The great metal giants are lying dormant
the Clydeside craftsmen have had their torment
the workins over, theres nowt to get done
in the race for ships, its abroad thats won

I'ts cruel and sad and makes me really mad
to think of the power this town once had
Dead and Gone best describes
The builders and dwelers on the Clyde
