Mirren Shore and Anderson Street
I made some new friends that day as well. It's a good sign for the health of the river and these swans two have company of another two which tend ot stay closer to the park and the yards. This last shot looking at the town you can see the towns buildings, the war memorial and the memorial in the park. The port baths have no roof. Believe it or not this was taken at the rush hour.........................
In November 1849 a request was made for the Perch lighthouse to be removed. Many ships had run aground or wrecked on the Perch. At this time there was three Channel lights in Port Glasgow
The Clyde Navigation Report in 1860 recommended that rather than try to remove the Perch that the beacon be replaced with a cast iron lighthouse on the Quay. The new quay light was situated 12 foot higher than the Perch and aligned so that both beams of light marked the centre of the newly dredged 25 feet deep upper channel. Both lights were originally white. This page last modified on Thursday, April 28, 2005
