Mr Charles Minihan OBE
Mr Minihan's career started in the yards first as a riveter and then later as a welder. He will be most remembered for his interests outside of the shipyards as these covered civic duties and the well being of Port Glasgow. He was to serve as Provost of Port Glasgow from 1936 until 1942 then returning to this position again in March 1943 until May 1952. A staggering 15 years service to the town and people of Port Glasgow which was recorded with praise in the third statistical account for the town and also recognised in 1949 when he received an OBE.
The man himself who was known as Charlie to his friends was remembered as a warm and caring man toughened by years spent in the depression with a sly sense of humor and a love for the Bard and a good Burns supper. My thanks to Mr Minihan's family for the help in putting this page together. This page last modified on Sunday, March 02, 2003
