Various Photographs
The Lithgows canteen, each table complete with an ashtray and HP brown sauce. I have no date for the photograph but it's a sure bet that mince and tatties were on the menu. A small collection of photographs that don't fit in any other section. The girl guides and the boy scouts of the Princess Street church around 1966. Do you recognise any faces?
A rather snow covered shot of "Kelly's" shops early in the morning. Another old photograph that has been sent to the the site this time showing men from the Kingston Yard in 1920. This photo taken before the realignment of the main road shows the Coronation Park and the war memorial. The whole section towards the bottom of this picture is now a bus and taxi stance.
Highholm School opened in November 1909
These pictures and details were sent to me by Mr J C Brown. This picture shows the Port Glasgow Salvation Army Band and was taken in 1939. I have no further details but would like to add some names, if you can help please get in touch!
My thanks to Mr Holman for allowing me to use this photograph!.
The scout leader kneeling in front of fake campfire is 'Skipper' Ross - the one with glasses. I am the small boy standing immediately behind him - there are 3 smaller boys wearing ties in the centre of picture and I am the one on the left. We would have been cubs at the time and the older boys with kilts were the scouts.
Skipper Ross lived in the first close at the old Firthview tenements across from Bouverie St - now demolished - between the 'tally' cafe and Franco's chippie.
Details from Mr Pattison - Thank You!
Taken in the 1950's these two shots show the boys plaing at Parklea swing park. There was 6 swings a slide and a roundabout (sadly not in the shots) The women seem to be sitting at a picnc table while the men are nearer the shore line in the background. You can clearly see all the wooden stumps as the tide is out. Look at the height of that slide! Today it would need to have a saftey floor and you would never get away with it being so high up!

'Thought I'd tell you that 'Skipper Ross' in your scout photo was actually Skipper Willie Welsh. He did indeed live at Firth View. He also had a dog called Mowgli!
