Sir Henry Birkmyre and Dalmunzie House
Another Birkmyre home this time situated on 6.500 acres of land with mountains rising to 1,200 feet behind it. Dalmunzie is now a 17 bedroom hotel in Spittal O' Glenshee, Perthshire
The railway was used to transport the laird and his guests up the glen from Dalmunzie House to Glenlochsie Lodge. Two 20hp petrol powered engines were employed. The first, named 'Dalmunzie', entered service in 1920 and she was joined by 'Glenlochsie', an identical vehicle, the following year. Tales abound of the rollercoaster ride they provided on the downhill run. The line closed in 1978 but this site has many photographs of the line and surrounding area and details of the railway line.
All of the photographs on this page were very kindly sent to me by other members of the Birkmyre family who are researching their family tree so my thanks to L C Sykes and Mr Birkmyre for all their help.

Dalmunzie was purchased by Sir Archibald Birkmyre in 1921 who had leased the property for several years. Sir Archie introduced the golf course & railway to Glenlochsie Lodge in the 1920’s and carried out various building work including major & aesthetic improvements to the present building.
The pictures of the house below were taken in September 1942 while family were spending some time at the house.
The house is now run a s a hotel. Scott & Brianna Poole, Australians of Scots descent took over the reins of Dalmunzie House as Directors in February 2004.
The hotel has a sight which offers more details of the houses history and some photogrphs of the interior of the house and it's surroundings
